About BnB
"Bricks-n-Books" is a metaphor.
|
The “BRICKS” in our name refers to the Life Skills and training we provide to build the foundation for a successful life upon which Job Skills rest. The “BOOKS” in our name refers to the Job Skills learned and performed by the youth who participate in the Bricks-n-Books program. The “PROJECT” in our name refers to community collaboration and alignment, which is the mortar necessary to bind the BRICKS and the BOOKS together. |
The Organization: Bricks-n-Books Project is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to helping at-risk youth achieve their life goals through education and employment. Our primary service offerings is an alternative secondary education job-readiness training program designed to serve eligible at-risk youth of all ages, working toward their General Education Development (GED) credential, while also receiving job-readiness training in a high-demand career field. With a strong emphasis on leadership development, including community service, our program also addresses soft-skill and life skill instruction, as well as entrepreneurship.
Our mission is to provide at-risk youth nationwide with opportunities to learn skills and develop attitudes that will enrich their lives and provide them with economic self-sufficiency in the global economy of the 21st century.
Our business approach is based on a concept known as "Free Market Fusion," as defined by the entrepreneur Glenn R. Jones. This approach harnesses the collective contributions of talents, skills, education, and experiences of each member of the collaboration. With a view to the idea that "it takes a village to raise a child," we also believe this approach enables the leveraging of human resources that already exists within communities who know the backgrounds and cultural differences of the young people that we wish to serve.
