The Bricks-n-Books Project
Basic Skills
Bricks-n-Books Program Component # 2.a:

Throughout America today there are literally millions of persons who do not possess the basic educational requisites in reading,  language arts and math that would qualify them for a job earning more than minimum wage. The Bricks-n-Books Project offers such individuals opportunities to obtain these basic skills and, therefore, gain a leg-up in their efforts to compete for and obtain a career opportunity that is now beyond their reach.

On average, high school graduates (or persons who earn their GED) who do not also earn a post-secondary education earn between $4,000 to $6,000 per year more than those who don't. This translates into improved quality of life for the graduate and increased state and federal revenues. This does not include the relative cost of social services that are often associated with persons earning minimum wage.
